Mr Brice Antao MBBS MRCSEd FRCSEd (Paed.Surg), Consultant Paediatric Surgeon

Mr Brice Antao qualified as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon in the UK in 2011. He brings unique expertise in “key-hole” minimally invasive surgery for children to Ireland. Mr Antao trained in world–leading paediatric surgical centres including Great Ormond Street Hospital and King’s College Hospital, London. He obtained the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh fellowship to undertake further training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery for children at Blank Children’s Hospital, Iowa, USA.

Prior to joining Beacon Hospital for Kids, Mr Antao worked as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin for 5 years. He brings with him pioneering surgical techniques combining cutting-edge surgical technology with evidence-based medicine, to provide the highest standard of care for all his patients.

Mr Antao manages all common general paediatric and neonatal surgical problems. He has specialist expertise in gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, thoracic, minimally invasive (laparoscopic), robotic surgery and surgical oncology.

Furthermore, Mr Antao has an excellent research profile having published 2 books, 24 book chapters, 36 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 60 presentations at international scientific meetings. Mr Antao believes strongly in keeping abreast with new innovations and technology that improve clinical care and works actively in national and international research and clinical collaborations. As a result, he was the first to introduce, non-surgical therapies such as vacuum bell therapy and pectus bracing for the management of chest wall deformities for children in Ireland.

The common referrals to Mr Antao are: foreskin disorders, umbilical disorders, hernia, hydrocele, varicocele, undescended testes, tongue tie, ingrown toe nails, congenital cysts, skin and soft tissue lesions, abdominal pain, bed wetting, bowel disorders, constipation, liver, spleen and gall bladder disorders, congenital chest wall deformities, palmar hyperhidrosis, gastroesophageal reflux, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, feeding difficulties requiring percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies (PEG) and  vascular access.

Dr Mary Shuhaibar

Dr. Mary Shuhaibar (LRCP&SI MB BCh NUI, MRCPI, MRCPS (Glasg), PhD) is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with special interest in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.

Following her qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin and completing her specialist medical training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine from the RCPI, she completed her PhD in Inflammatory Bowel Disease in 2016 from Trinity College Dublin. Dr. Shuhaibar was appointed as Lecturer in Clinical Medicine and Gastroenterology at Trinity College Dublin from 2006-2010. She completed a fellowship in IBD from Oxford, UK prior to her return to Ireland.  

She has been involved in multiple research projects nationally and internationally and has multiple research publications in the field of IBD and colorectal cancer. She is a member of the Irish Society of Gastroenterology, the European Crohn’s Colitis Organization (ECCO) and European Society of Gastroenterology Endoscopy (ESGE). Her main interests are inflammatory bowel disease, diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy, general Gastroenterology, quality of Care for patients with GI diseases, colorectal screening, video capsule endoscopy , Haemochromatosis and Education.

Dr Shiobhan Weston

Telemedicine with Zoom as well as telephone consultations as an alternative to office visits are

Professor Shiobhan Weston currently works as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at
Beacon Hospital and is Clinical Associate Professor at the School of Medicine at UCD Science. In
addition to clinical gastroenterology and her teaching commitments, she is a member of Beacon
Hospitals’ dedicated pelvic floor group and is on the Board of Directors at Beacon Consultant’s

Her clinical and research interests are expansive and include colon cancer screening, gastrooesophageal
reflux disease, Helicobacter Pylori infection, irritable bowel syndrome, SIBO, IBD, and
liver disease. Over the last few years, she developed an evolving interest in the complex interplay of
the gut brain axis and the gut microbiome as it relates to nutrition and mental health.

Professor Shiobhan Weston received her medical degree from The Royal College of Surgeons in
1992. She completed her internship, residency in General Medicine and 1-year fellowship in
Hepatology at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
She left Ireland in 1996 and completed her ABIM requirements in Internal Medicine and subspecialty
training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Gastrointestinal motility disorders, IBS, and Liver disease at
The Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a 3 year fellowship in Gastroenterology and
Transplant Hepatology at UCLA and the UCLA-Dumont Transplant Center in Los Angeles. She was
awarded an Advanced Hepatology Research fellowship award and funding for formal training in
clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, and liver transplant medicine at UCSF in San Francisco.
Prior to her current appointment, she was Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York-Presbyterian
Hospital in New York and The Director for the Center for Liver Disease at Winthrop-University

Mr Adnan Hafeez

Adnan Hafeez has been practicing as Consultant Surgeon in Beacon Hospital since 2008.  Since graduation he had his surgical training in Ireland with special interest in General, Robotic, Open and Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery, Endoscopy (Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Direct Access). He has trained in busy tertiary centres including working as Consultant Surgeon in St James Hospital.

Mr. Hafeez is also the clinical lead in Sepsis management in Beacon Hospital. He is also Clinical Head of Quality Assurrance / Advisor to the Patient Safety Quality and Innovation Department (PSQI) and also overlooks the patient clinical complaints. Mr Adnan Hafeez is also member of Clinical Risk Committee and Clinical Board of Beacon Hospital. Beside busy clinical practice Mr. Hafeez is also involved in regular teaching of Medical Students and has adjunct appointment to the UCD school of Medicine as UCD Assistant Clinical Professor.

Mr.Hafeez beside his interest in Colorectal surgery also has general surgical interest providing day care and inpatient service for laparoscopic hernia (inguinal, incisional, umbilical etc ), gallbladder, perianal diseases. He has very busy endoscopy lists in Beacon Hospital providing diagnostic and therapeutic service including polyp excisions, EMR, dilatation etc and works closely with the medical and radiation oncology team in Beacon Hospital.
