Surgical Day Unit
Beacon Hospital’s state-of-the-art Surgical Day Unit, or SDU, is designed to admit and provide pre-op care to all surgical patients.
The Surgical Day Unit is where patients who are scheduled for surgery will be checked in and admitted. The Unit provides all necessary pre-operative care and checks prior to patients being taken into theatre.
Once admitted, patients will be escorted into their assigned cubicle by a member of Beacon Hospital staff. Patients will be presented with a hospital gown, non-slip socks and disposable underwear to change into. Patients may also be asked to provide a urine sample and blood test prior to their surgery. A nurse will be assigned to each patient to go through a list of checks also.
Post-surgery, patients who are day cases, not overnight stays, will be brought back to this unit for recovery monitoring and to be collected by their next of kin or a nominated person.
Please note: Prior to surgery, you will be asked to remove all jewellery. For security reasons, it is advisable to leave all valuable personal belongings, such as jewellery and large sums of cash, at home.
