Covid Screening Suite

Covid testing with appointments available in as little as 24 hours.

Beacon Hospital’s state-of-the-art Covid Screening Suite is located in Suite 5A of the Mall adjacent to the hospital. The Suite is comprised of a reception area with individual pods and 4 clinical rooms for testing. Beacon Hospital uses only gold standard internationally recognised Covid-19 swab testing kits for all Covid tests completed in our premises.

We also offer Covid antibody testing. This test is a blood test which allows our lab technicians to examine your blood for the presence of Covid-19 antibodies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below some of the most commonly asked questions received in relation to Beacon Hospital's Covid Screening Suite.
  • I need to be screened before my surgery in Beacon Hospital, do I have to pay for this?

Patients who are booked for surgery requiring use of a general anaesthetic will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test in the days before their planned surgery.

Our scheduling department will phone you to arrange this test in the Covid Screening Suite.

If you have private health insurance, the cost of this pre-admission Covid test will be paid by your insurance company and you will not make any payments at the Covid Testing Suite.

  • I need to be screened before my planned overnight admission to Beacon Hospital, do I have to pay for this?

Patients who are booked for overnight admission to Beacon Hospital will be required to have a negative Covid-19 test in the days before their planned admission.

  • I want to get a test before/after travelling. Can I book in for this or do I need a referral?

You can book in for a test by phoning the Covid Screening Suite at any time before or after travelling. No referral is required for this.

Patients are reminded that a negative test post travel does not mean you have not been exposed and you could potentially still become infected due to the incubation period of the virus.

Patients should continue to follow Government and HSE guidelines in relation to isolation and travel guidelines irrespective of test results. The most up-to-date version of these guideline can be found on the Gov.ie website at any given time. Click Here to visit the latest travel guidelines from Gov.ie.

  • Can I get a Covid antibody test to see if I have antibodies?

Not unless you are getting a Covid-19 swab test. Patients choosing to attend for a commercial swab test can avail of an antibody test also if they so wish. Please note there is an extra change for this and the test is only available to patients booking in for commercial testing. It is not available as a test for patients having pre-surgery or admission Covid swab tests through their health insurance.

A Covid antibody test requires a blood sample to be taken for testing in the lab. Once the results have been determined, your report will be posted to you.

Please note, presence of antibodies does not mean that you are not at risk from Covid indefinitely. Protective measures such as mask wearing and hand hygiene should continue to be taken to protect yourself and others.

  • I have had Covid before. Do I still need a test prior to my admission/surgery?

Yes. Even if you have had confirmed Covid in the past you will still need to be tested prior to your admission to the hospital.

This pre-admission test is a protective measure for you, our staff and our other patients.

  • I am nervous of getting the test. Is it painful?

Please try not to be nervous about having your Covid swab test carried out. This test takes only a matter of seconds and is not painful.

It may be a little uncomfortable but try to relax and it will be over in no time!

  • Can I do a home test I purchased online rather than attending for a test at the Covid Screening Suite?

No. Home test results will not be accepted as valid results for patients prior to hospital admission or surgery.

Beacon Hospital uses the highest standard of accredited testing products. We cannot accept results from tests which do not have all necessary accreditations, certifications and standards checks.

  • How long will my results take?

Most results are back within 24 to 48 hours (weekdays only). During particularly busy times, results may take longer.

If you need your result back for a particular date, please mention this at time of booking and our team will be able to advise you of the expected time frame for results.

  • I tested positive for Covid-19. What do I do next?

Self-isolate. If you text positive for Covid-19 you should self isolate and put in place measures for delivery of essentials such as food and any medical products you may need. Ask a family member or friend to get these and drop them to your door. Alternatively, use a shopping delivery service. You should not attend the shops in person after testing positive for Covid.

If you have a surgery or admission scheduled, this will have to be postponed until you are Covid negative again. Where this is the case, a member of Beacon Hospital’s scheduling team will be in touch to give you a new date for your surgery/admission.
