MitraClips in Beacon Hospital Cath Lab

Four Patients Successfully Received Mitraclips

We are excited to share that last week in Beacon Hospital, four patients successfully received MitraClips in our Cath Lab.

The MitraClip is a small clip, which is attached to the mitral valve with a catheter inserted through a vein in the leg. This procedure is required if the mitral valve is not closing tightly enough which results in mitral regurgitation or “leaky valve”.

The MitraClip is a state-of-the-art device that offers a minimally invasive solution for patients with severely diseased mitral valves who are not suitable candidates for open heart surgery. This procedure is just one example of the extensive range of minimally invasive cardiac procedures provided at Beacon Hospital.

The successful implementation of MitraClips was made possible through the dedicated teamwork of our exceptional staff in the Cath Lab including Consultant Cardiologists Dr David Barton and Dr Cormac O’Connor. We are proud to continue delivering pioneering care to our patients. Well done to all in the Cath Lab!
