Beacon Hospital opens Ireland’s first private Neuro-Interventional Radiology Suite

Beacon Hospital has announced the opening of our new Neuro-Interventional Radiology (Neuro-IR) Suite, establishing the first dedicated private service of its kind in Ireland and marking a significant expansion of advanced neurovascular care for patients. The service forms part of Beacon Hospital’s Brain Institute and will offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional procedures for patients with cerebral, spinal and other complex neurovascular conditions.

The purpose-built suite is equipped with the latest technology in imaging, providing ultra-high-resolution, real-time imaging of blood vessels in the brain and spine during procedures. The service will work alongside Beacon Hospital’s recently opened neurovascular hybrid theatre, which enables angiography to be performed during surgery where required. Together, the facilities provide an integrated neurovascular pathway combining advanced imaging, minimally invasive intervention and neurosurgery within a single centre.

For patients, the new suite will provide highly specialised neurovascular expertise within a dedicated environment. It will offer a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including brain aneurysm coiling and stenting, carotid artery stenting, venous sinus stenting, diagnostic cerebral angiography, treatment of spinal vascular lesions, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, facial arteriovenous malformations, and a number of specialist procedures not widely available in Ireland.

By bringing advanced imaging technology, minimally invasive treatment options and multidisciplinary specialist expertise together, patients can now benefit from a more streamlined treatment journey, from diagnosis through to recovery. The suite also includes its own dedicated admissions and recovery unit, ensuring a seamless patient experience for day-case procedures.

Ultimately, this means patients can access highly specialised care closer to home and benefit from treatment pathways that are both more precise and less invasive.”

This investment is in addition to the €75 million expansion programme already underway at Beacon Hospital with the addition of 70 new beds, a new Emergency Department and enhanced cancer care facilities. ”

The Neuro-IR service will be delivered by a team of consultant Interventional Neuroradiologists: Dr Alan O’Hare, Dr Sarah Power, Dr Matthew Crockett and Prof Patrick Nicholson. It forms part of Beacon Hospital’s ongoing strategy to expand specialist clinical services and ensure patients in Ireland have access to advanced medical technologies and internationally trained expertise.
