While there, Dr. Barton also achieved level 2 accreditation in heart failure, advanced heart failure therapies and transplantation, echocardiography and cardiac CT. There at UNMC, he continued his academic career as an assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine, where clinically he served as an attending in interventional and structural cardiology. He remains an adjunctive assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Nebraska with whom he maintains a collaborative research relationship that focuses on valvular and structural heart disease, contrast echocardiography, mechanical circulatory support and coronary microvascular disease.

Dr. Barton’s areas of clinical interest and expertise lie in preventative cardiology – including hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and lifestyle modification, coronary artery disease including complex coronary interventions (chronic total occlusions and high-risk interventions) and structural heart disease: specifically TAVI and Mitraclip.
