Training:
Mr Agrawal received international training across numerous centres of excellence. While he also has a first-class honours degree in biochemistry, he graduated from Cambridge University in 2002. Following his residency training in the West Midlands he developed a sub-specialist interest in cataract and glaucoma. He went on to the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital where he completed a two-year medical and surgical glaucoma fellowship. Throughout the fellowship he worked closely with the UK’s key opinion leader’s of modern-day techniques for glaucoma filtration surgery.
Experience:
Mr Pavi Agrawal is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon here at Beacon Hospital. Mr Agrawal’s specialties include small incision cataract surgery and the medical and surgical management of glaucoma.
Before joining Beacon Hospital, Mr Agrawal worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in Nottingham University NHS Trust in the UK, for nearly 10 years. He was recognised for his dedication to ophthalmic teaching and research and in 2020 was appointed to Honorary Assistant Professor in the University of Nottingham, School of Medicine.
Mr Agrawal also received a distinction in a postgraduate diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery facilitated by Ulster University and approved by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Agrawal has years of experience and has completed thousands of cataract operations with a significantly lower complication rate than the national average. He has vast experience in performing glaucoma filtration surgery including augmented trabeculectomy and aqueous-shunt tube surgery. He also has performed hundreds of glaucoma laser treatments including selective laser trabeculoplasty and cyclodiode laser.
Mr Agrawal is highly skilled in some of the latest minimally invasive glaucoma surgical (MIGS) treatments to help manage and stabilize glaucoma including the Preserflo Microshunt, iStents, viscocanaloplasty and trabeculotomy.
The international glaucoma fellows Mr Agrawal has trained in these advancing techniques have also gone on to have very successful careers. As well as being a member of the European Glaucoma Society and the UK & Eire Glaucoma Society, Mr Agrawal is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Mr Agrawal is fully appraised and validated by both the General Medical Council and the Irish Medical Council.
Mr Agrawal has published research in some of the most prestigious ophthalmology journals and has written over 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers. Mr Agrawal is also the author of a book chapter in the world’s best-selling glaucoma textbook for specialists. In addition to his written work, Mr Agrawal has presented his research at both major national and international ophthalmology conferences and is regularly invited to speak, chair and moderate conference sessions. Mr Agrawal has recruited numerous patients to major international glaucoma studies, including the LIGHT trial and TAGS.
Mr Agrawal’s goal is to always provide the highest standard of glaucoma therapy, cataract surgery and ophthalmic expertise in a caring and informed manner, while using the most up-to-date and appropriate treatment for his patients.
