Dr Jennifer Grant Discusses Symptoms of Shingles

A patient in their 60s asks Dr Grant what may be the cause behind sores on his scalp and head. Dr Grant informs that it may be shingles, as sores are often a symptom. The sores, or red skin that may have initially looked like an insect bite, often have small yellow vesicles within the red patch. Shingles is caused by the same virus as chicken pox in childhood.
Dr Grant recommends that anyone over 50 can get the shingles vaccine which will reduce the risk of developing shingles.
