Dr Khash Nikookam

Dr Nikookam is a consultant Endocrinologist and General Physician at Beacon Hospital. He is an expert in the treatment of diabetes, hypertension, lipid abnormalities, and diseases of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary gland. He has 20 years’ experience as consultant in this field with expertise in novel treatments of these conditions.
He is also a consultant in Greater London since 1999 in General Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetes at Barking Havering and Redbridge University NHS Trust (BHRUT) where he set up an endocrine and diabetes service and is currently Divisional Director for Specialist Medicine. He is also a consultant at Spire London East and Holly private hospitals.
He was educated at Newman College in Dublin and at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin graduating in Medicine in 1990. He completed his early postgraduate medical training in Limerick Regional Hospital and also worked in Belfast Royal Infirmary, City Hospital and Altnagelvin Hospitals. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physician in Ireland (MRCPI) in 1994.
He worked as a research fellow in the Mater Hospital, Dublin in 1994 where he worked on a comprehensive diabetes data base and presented and published a number of epidemiological papers in diabetes and diabetic complications. He started his specialist training in diabetes and endocrinology at the Mater Hospital in Dublin and completed his specialist training in the UK in Sheffield University Hospitals and awarded his certificate of completion of specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 1999.
His leadership roles include Clinical Lead for Endocrinology and Diabetes 2004-2010 and Clinical Director for Endocrinology 2010-2012. He has been the Divisional Director for Specialist Medicine at BHURT since 2018 with overall responsibility for a significant number of specialities.
Dr Nikookam has delivered several lectures as an invited speaker at international meetings in Endocrinology alongside frequently speaking at local meetings on the management of diabetes and endocrine disorders. He has presented at multiple international conferences including a recent project on the management of phaeochromocytoma at the European Congress for Endocrinology.
His interests include thyroid, calcium and parathyroid conditions, erectile dysfunction, adrenal, pituitary disorders, metabolic syndrome alongside diabetes and related complications.
