Spring GP Study Day 2024: Cardiology & Electrophysiology

 

Our Spring GP Study Day 2024 was on Saturday 13th April in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall. Worth 6 CPD Points and 1 Day GMS Leave, we had a full agenda on “Cardiology & Electrophysiology”.

The morning started with an informative session by Dr Orla Franklin, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist on Heart Disease in Children. Prof David Burke, Director of Cardiology, discussed Cath Lab Latest Advancements & How They will Benefit Patients. Then Dr Julie O’Brien, Consultant Radiologist, spoke on Cardiac Diagnostic Imaging for GPs. Prof Karen Redmond, Consultant Thoracic & Lung Transplant Surgeon, shared updates on Cardiac & Respiratory Implications for Pectus Patients.

Our first session ended with Prof Kevin Walsh, Consultant Cardiologist, giving a presentation on the New Space of Extravascular ICD.

Dr Deirdre Waterhouse, Consultant Cardiologist, began our second session speaking with Alice Griffin, Head of Cardiac Services, on Heart Failure Management. Next up Prof Jonathan Lyne, Director of Electrophysiology, presented on an Arrhythmia patient case study and with an insightful discussion. We then had an informative Heart Rhythm Disorders Panel Discussion with Prof Jonathan Lyne, Dr Derek Crinion, Consultant Cardiologist, and Alex Kenny, Arrhythmia CNS.

Finally we had a great presentation on Managing Hypertension in Primary Care with Prof Robert Kelly, Consultant in Cardiology & Lifestyle Medicine. Dr Bart Kuczera from Beacon Care Fertility also gave a quick update on the HSE Publicly Funded Fertility Services Scheme.
