NEW! Official Opening of Beacon Hospital’s Rheumatology Centre
Beacon Hospital Opens Ireland’s Largest Private Rheumatology Centre
Beacon Hospital has officially opened its new Rheumatology Centre, the largest and most comprehensive private rheumatology service of its kind in Ireland.
The purpose-built centre has been designed to deliver specialist, patient-centred care for individuals living with autoimmune, inflammatory, degenerative and musculoskeletal conditions. Located in the Beacon Hospital campus, it brings together expert clinical care, advanced diagnostics and specialist therapies in one integrated setting.
Consultant-Led Expertise in Integrated Care
The service is led by a team of seven Consultant Rheumatologists, supported by dedicated specialist nursing and allied health professionals. The Centre offers integrated pathways for both diagnosis and ongoing management of complex rheumatic disease, including routine access to musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic assessment and ultrasound-guided injections.
The centre includes rapid-access pathways for conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, giant cell arteritis and bone health assessment, helping to reduce delays and improve early intervention.
Patients will have access to a wide range of services on-site, including advanced imaging such as ultrasound, MRI, CT, X-ray and DEXA scanning, alongside a dedicated five-chair infusion suite for the delivery of specialist therapies. Multidisciplinary collaboration is central to the Rheumatology service, with close links across orthopaedics, dermatology, nephrology, pulmonology and cardiology, as well as physiotherapy, rehabilitation and pain management supports.
Speaking about the launch, Prof David Kane, Consultant Rheumatologist, highlighted the importance of integrated care:
“Rheumatology is increasingly complex, requiring input from multiple specialties alongside advanced diagnostics and therapies. Having that level of expertise and infrastructure available within a single centre means we can make faster, more informed clinical decisions and provide a more seamless experience for patients.”
Meeting Growing Demand in Rheumatology Care
Rheumatology conditions affect a significant proportion of the population in Ireland, with up to one million people living with arthritis and approximately 300,000 diagnosed with osteoporosis. The demand for specialist rheumatology services continues to grow, driven by ageing demographics and advances in treatment options.
Michael Cullen, CEO of Beacon Hospital said: “The opening of our new Rheumatology Centre reflects a significant investment in specialist care at a time when demand for timely diagnosis and treatment continues to grow. By bringing together expertise, diagnostics and therapies in one location, we are focused on improving access, reducing delays and supporting better long-term outcomes for patients.”
Specialist Care at Beacon Hospital
The Rheumatology Centre forms part of Beacon Hospital’s broader investment programme across the campus, including the expansion of inpatient capacity and continued development of specialist centres such as Beacon Brain Institute and Beacon Breast Centre.
This investment reflects Beacon Hospital’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible and patient-focused care across a wide range of specialties.
