Cath Lab Reaches 250 Cases with Medtronic Affera System

A Global First as Beacon Hospital’s Cath Lab Reaches 250 Cases with Medtronic Affera System

Beacon Hospital is proud to share another major milestone for our Cath Lab team, as they have now successfully performed 250 Cardiac Ablations using the Medtronic Affera Mapping and Ablation System. This achievement of 250 Cardiac Ablations to treat patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF), makes Beacon Hospital the first centre in the world to reach this landmark with this pioneering technology in a clinical setting.

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a serious condition that can lead to stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications. One in four people over the age of 50 are at risk of developing AF,  and it is associated with increased hospital admissions and a significant reduction in quality of life.

Beacon Hospital continues to lead the way globally with this exciting technology from Medtronic. The Affera system, including the Sphere-9 ablation catheter and Affera Prism-1 mapping software, maps and removes atrial arrhythmias with precision.

Beacon Hospital was among the first five hospitals in the world to begin using the Affera system and is now the first to complete 250 procedures. This is a testament to our team’s dedication, skill, and commitment to innovation in cardiac care.

This achievement reflects the outstanding collaboration and hard work of our Cath Lab team including Prof Jonathan Lyne, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved. We are proud to continue delivering this groundbreaking treatment to our patients at Beacon Hospital.
