Autumn GP Study Day 2023

On Saturday 16^th September we were back in UCD O’Reilly Hall to host our Autumn GP Study Day 2023. Prof Seamus Linnane, Consultant in General and Respiratory Medicine, and Deputy Medical Director of Beacon Hospital was our Chair for our GP Study Day.

The Autumn GP Study Day started with an early morning session from Dr Emma Ruth. Dr Ruth is a Consultant Paediatrician and gave a Paediatric Allergy Masterclass including Case Studies and Management.

Dr Catherine Foley, Consultant Dermatologist, opened our first session focusing on Common Dermatology Complaints in GP Practice. Mr Donagh Healy, Consultant Vascular Surgeon shared Steps for Management of Diabetic Foot. Mr Philip Brady, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in BCO, spoke about the Unhappy Total Knee Replacement.

Our first session ended with a panel discussion between Dr David Barton, Consultant Cardiologist and Ciara Bissett Cardiology Nurse Specialist on Cardiology Case Studies and Patient Pathways.

Mr Hugh Gallagher, Consultant Urologist, kicked off our second session presenting on IT Worker’s Testicle and Other Urological Nuggets. Dr Deborah Galvin, Consultant in Pain Management gave updates for GPs on Managing Female Pelvic Pain. Both Prof Reza Kalbassi, Consultant in Colorectal Surgery and Endoscopy Clinical Lead, and Dr Syed Anwar, Consultant Gastroenterologist, presented on Gastrointestinal Case Studies. Dr Anwar gave an informative presentation on Interpreting Liver Function Tests. Dr Carla Moran, Consultant Endocrinologist, spoke on Interpreting Endocrine Test Results in General Practice. Finally to close out the day, Dr Ahmed Omar from Beacon Care Fertility gave a helpful presentation for GPs on Fertility.
