Annual GP Study Day 2023: Cardiology MDT Between Consultant & GP
On Saturday January 21st, we hosted our Annual GP Study Day 2023 on Cardiology MDT Between Consultant and GP!
Our “Cardiology MDT Between Consultant & GP” kicked off on Saturday morning with Case Studies of Common Cardiology Patients for GPs with Prof Tom Kiernan, Consultant Cardiologist & Clinical Director of Beacon Limerick, and Dr Samer Arnous, Consultant Cardiologist from Beacon Limerick.
Prof David Burke, Director of Cardiology at Beacon Hospital, was our Chair for our first session. Prof Burke opened the session with a great presentation on our Cath Lab in Beacon Hospital, showing recent updates to the Cath Lab and how it will benefit patients. Dr Julie O’Brien, Consultant Radiologist in Beacon Limerick, gave a brilliant presentation on the Role of CT in Cardiac Diagnostics. Dr David Barton, Consultant Cardiologist spoke on Cardiology Referral Pathways, and whether cases are Rapid Access or ED. Prof Kevin Walsh, Consultant Cardiologist, gave an informative presentation on Congenital Heart Disease and the growing field of Adult Cardiology.
Our second session was packed with five excellent presentations. Dr Rory O’Hanlon chaired our second session, and opened with a discussion on Cardiac MRI Case Studies. Prof Jonathon Lyne, Director of Cardiac EP, presented on Cardiac Electrophysiology; Case Studies to Set Your Pulses Racing. Dr Theo Murphy, Consultant Cardiologist, spoke on Cardio-Oncology in General Practice. Dr Paul Oslizlok, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, gave a helpful talk on Cardiac Problems in Infants & Children; When to Worry & When to Refer.
Finally Prof Robert Kelly, spoke on Self-Care for GPs. Prof Kelly got everyone up and moving both in O’Reilly Hall and at home, and reminded us all about looking after our own health.
