2026 Spring GP Study Day
Our 2026 Spring GP Study Day took place on Saturday 18th April in UCD O’Reilly Hall . Worth 6 CPD Points and 1 Day GMS Study Leave, our Study Day included presentations from Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, ENT, Paeds and more. Prof Mark Redmond, Medical Director and Consultant Cardiologist at Beacon Hospital was our Chair for the Spring GP Educational Event.
Our Spring GP Study Day launched with a brilliant Rheumatology Masterclass on Inflammatory Arthritis. The early morning session was led by Prof David Kane, Consultant Rheumatologist, who gave diagnostic tips for GPs and spoke of the role of POCUS. Next Dr Orla NiMhuircheartaigh, Consultant Rheumatologist, discussed immunotherapy and how achieving remission is the new norm. Then, Dr Javaneh Lyons, Consultant Rheumatologist, presented three common clinical scenarios for Rheumatology in Clinical Care. Dr Catherine Hughes, Consultant Rheumatologist, and Dr Diana Gheta, Consultant Rheumatologist, joined for excellent panel discussion.
Session One
Beginning our first session was Dr Siobhra O’Sullivan, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, presenting essential skin cancer information for GPs.
Our ENT Team held an excellent ENT Discussion Panel exploring patient management through primary to hospital care. Our Panel included Mr Brendan Fennessy, Consultant ENT Surgeon, Ms Phoebe Roche, Consultant Otolaryngologist, Ms Natalija Snovak, Consultant ENT Surgeon, Mr Shawkat Abdulrahman, Consultant ENT Surgeon, and Prof Robbie Woods, Consultant Otolaryngologist.
Finally, our first session ended with a fascinating presentation by Prof Brendan O’Daly, Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon and Mr Khalid Merghani, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, as they covered Anterior Hip Replacements.
Session Two
Dr Aftab Jan, Consultant Cardiologist, opened the session and provided a comprehensive update on Cardiac CTs and rapid cardiac care. We then had a discussion panel on Oesophageal, Gastric & Gut Health which included Prof John Reynolds, Consultant Oesophageal & Gastric Specialist, Ms Eleanor Faul, Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon, Dr Barry Hall, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Dr Syed Anwar, Consultant Gastroenterologist.
The session ended with an informative and valuable presentation by Dr Nikita Deegan, Consultant in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology on What is PAG?
