Who is suitable?
- If you are a patient on a Health & Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI) waiting list for a year or more, for hip or knee replacement surgery, you may be eligible.
Please note, patients must contact their local health board to confirm their eligibility.

How do I apply for reimbursement?
- Our administration team will help you with all the required information you need to complete and submit a formal application for reimbursement to the Health & Social Care Board Northern Ireland (HSCNI).
- The process can take up to 20 working days to get approval.

How long will I have to wait for treatment?
- As soon as you receive approval for reimbursement, we aim to schedule your initial consultation within 10 days.
- After your initial Consultation a date will be booked for your procedure. This date will usually be up to 6 weeks later in order to allow for pre-operative assessment and all of the necessary planning.

What happens after my consultation?
- We will get in touch and let you know if any additional diagnostic scans or tests are needed before your procedure is carried out.
- Upon deciding to go ahead with your procedure at Beacon Hospital, you will receive a patient information booklet detailing all you need to know relating to your surgery.

What happens after my procedure?
- In the six-week period following your procedure, your consultant will review your progress at a scheduled follow-up appointment.
- All going well, you will be discharged from Beacon Hospital, and your post-operative care plan will be communicated in writing to your General Practitioner (GP).

How much does it cost?
The cost of treatment varies, depending on the tests and procedure required. Our Patient Coordinator will give you a detailed quotation in advance, so you can make an informed decision.
Our quote is a guaranteed all-inclusive price for a full surgical package, including:
- Pre-operative consultation
- Joint School session
- Consultant and Anaesthetist fees
- X-rays
- Pre-operative assessment
- Hospital accommodation
- Inpatient physiotherapy sessions

When do I need to pay?
- You need to pay the full cost no later than 7 days prior to your procedure. This ensures that when you arrive at the hospital there is a more streamlined admissions process, and you can focus 100% on your procedure and recovery. Once your care is complete, you will be able to submit your claim for reimbursement to the Health & Social Care Board Northern Ireland
(HSCNI). Reimbursement can take up to six weeks to be processed.
Please note that without payment 7 days in advance of admission, surgery may be at risk of being postponed or cancelled.

How do I pay for my procedure?
- You can pay for you procedure by bank transfer, by card online or by card over the phone. If you opt to choose to pay via bank transfer, our team will send you a secure link via text. Once clicked, this link will take you to your banking app and you can simply approve the transfer. You will be provided with a receipt instantly with this option.
- If you choose to pay via card online, you can use the ‘Pay My Bill’ function on Beacon Hospital’s website. In order to do this, you will require a V number, an MRN number and the amount you wish to pay in order to complete this. These numbers will all be provided to you by our admin team.
- If you wish to pay by card over the phone, you can contact the hospital on 01 293 6600 and ask to be transferred to Patient Accounts who will be able to process your payment.
