This year’s Beacon Hospital All-Ireland 7s Series is underway! Competitions for all four codes are taking place across four Saturdays in July and August. The All-Ireland Hurling 7s was the curtain raiser for the Series on Saturday 16th July. Teams from across the country flocked to Stillorgan to compete for the coveted “third” All-Ireland trophy.

The day was a great celebration of hurling on the eve of the All-Ireland Final. In addition to great action on the pitch, there was fun for all the family! Attendees of all ages visited the Beacon Hub, to take part in our Test Your Speed and Target Cage games and have a munch on some popcorn! Our teams from HealthCheck and the Sports Lab were also in attendance providing mini HealthChecks and fitness testing!

Lisdowney Victorious

In what was a fiercely competitive day of hurling, it was Lisdowney of Co. Kilkenny who reigned supreme after defeating O’Tooles of Co. Dublin in the final. It was a tight match ending with a score of 5-12 to 4-14 after extra-time. It was a close game of hurling to the delight of the spectators!

Elsewhere, Cuchulainns of Co. Armagh overcame Eoghan Ruadh of Co. Tyrone by 1-9 to 2-5 to win the Shield Final. In the underage competitions, the two Galway clubs of Craughwell & Athenry won the Under 12 & 14 competitions respectively.

Next up is the All-Ireland Football 7s on Saturday 23rd July in what is expected to be a festival of football with some of the country’s finest footballers set to be on show.
