Dr Grant Answers Questions on Bunions
This week Dr Grant is asked about bunions by a male patient in his 30’s, who has begun to notice a bony lump and pain in his foot when doing activities like lunges in the gym. The patient is concerned it may get worse. A bunion is a bony deformation at the joint at the base of the big toe.
It is not fully understood what causes bunions to form but it is believed to be multifactorial. Dr Grant also assures that there are many methods to managing bunions, however the first step should be a visit to a physiotherapist for an assessment of foot anatomy and gait.
Each week Dr Grant, GP at Beacon HealthCheck, answers your questions in Independent.ie.
