CTCA: Official Opening of Ireland’s First Siemens CT Pro.Pulse
Beacon Hospital Officially Opens Ireland’s First Siemens SOMATOM Pro.Pulse CT Scanner and Expands Access to CT Coronary Angiograms
Beacon Hospital is delighted to announce the official opening of our new Siemens SOMATOM Pro.Pulse CT system, the first and only installation of its kind in Ireland. The new scanner is dedicated exclusively to CT Coronary Angiography (CTCA), allowing us to double our daily CTCA capacity and provide patients with faster access to world-class cardiac imaging.
This is a significant addition to our diagnostic imaging service and a reflection of Beacon Hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care.
The opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting event attended by hospital leadership, members of the Radiology and Cardiology teams and representatives from Siemens Healthineers.
CTCA: Siemens SOMATOM Pro.Pulse CT Scanner
The SOMATOM Pro.Pulse offers enhanced image quality, intelligent motion correction and ultra-low radiation doses, making it particularly effective for patients with higher or irregular heart rates.
The system delivers exceptional clarity for assessing coronary artery disease which supports earlier intervention for patients at risk. It also reduces motion artifacts, which is especially beneficial for patients who struggle to hold their breath or remain still.
In addition to imaging, the system incorporates AI-powered workflow assistance to personalise scans for patients and improve efficiency for our radiographers. The system has the added benefit of air-cooling and an integrated generator, and so consumes less power.
CTCA is a beneficial early diagnostic tool for intermediate-risk patients or those with chest pain of uncertain origin. The scanner provides a more comfortable patient experience, with rapid scan times and no recovery period.
With this investment, Beacon Hospital can offer early and late appointments, seven days a week, ensuring timely access for patients and referring clinicians.
Patricia Egan, Director of Radiology
Speaking at the opening, Patricia Egan, Director of Radiology thanked all involved in bringing the project to completion and acknowledged the significant work carried out by the Radiology, Cardiology, Medical Physics, Projects, Procurement, IT, Patient Services and Facilities teams.
Patricia said, “this new CT scanner is more than just equipment, it is a symbol of Beacon Hospital’s commitment to innovation and excellence. It represents our promise to our community, our patients, our referrers and our clinicians, to provide the highest quality care using advanced technology.”
Beacon Hospital remains committed to investing in advanced cardiac imaging and delivering best-in-class care. Congratulations to all involved in this milestone.
