Anxiety About Flying with Dr Grant

Anxiety About Flying with Dr Jennifer Grant
This week Dr Grant received a question from an individual with anxiety about flying. They are seeking more information about the possibility of using Xanax for a long-haul flight they are dreading. They also want to know if Xanax is the best option, and if they can get a prescription from their GP.
Xanax is one of the more commonly prescribed benzodiazepines to help with anxiety before medical procedures or long-haul flights. Benzodiazepines are a type of sedative and anti-anxiety medication.
Dr Grant explains that medication should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. It should be only be taken as prescribed by a doctor. Dr Grant also details practical, and important alternative strategies to dealing with anxiety and a fear of flying.
In addition to relieving flight anxiety, Dr Grant also gives us her top tips for flying. This includes staying hydrated, drinking lots of water and moving regularly to prevent developing clots. She recommends rotating your ankles in a circular motion and also pumping your calf muscles by pointing your toes up and down. Regular movement will encourage blood flow.
