2025 Autumn GP Study Day
On Saturday 13th September we were in UCD’s O’Reilly Hall for our 2025 Autumn GP Study Day on “Advanced Breast Care & Hot Topics”!
The day was split into two sessions, with our first session featuring our Beacon Breast Centre team. Mr Terry Boyle, Consultant Breast Surgeon and Beacon Breast Centre Medical Director was our Chair for the first session.
Our GP Study Day kicked off with a presentation by Mr Terry Boyle and Martina Farley on current Breast Cancer Trends. Dr Reem Salman, Consultant Breast Surgeon, followed with a useful guide on Risk assessment Tools for the GP. Assoc Prof Sylvia O’Keeffe, Consultant Radiologist spoke on Breast Surveillance for high risk, dense breast and HRT. Dr Carmen Torre, Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon gave an update on Breast Reconstruction Case Studies. Our first session ended with an MDT Panel on High Risk Patients with Mr Dhafir Alawazi, Consultant Breast Surgeon, Dr Lisa Prior, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Prof Fran Duane, Consultant Radiation Oncologist.
Following on from a great first session, our second session contained six more brilliant presentations. Prof Seamus Linnane, Consultant in General and Respiratory Medicine, and Deputy Medical Director of Beacon Hospital was our Chair for Session 2.
Our second session started with a presentation on Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery by Mr William Robb, Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon. Prof Eddie Moloney, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM gave an update on obstructive sleep apnoea. Next, Dr Abhilash Sahadevan, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM, spoke on Exercise Induced Asthma. Dr Deirdre B Fitzgerald, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, followed with advice on Integrated COPD Care. Prof Seamus Linnane, Consultant in Respiratory and GIM and Deputy Medical Director of Beacon Hospital, covered Common and Uncommon Respiratory Presentations. Prof Robert Hannon, Consultant General, Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon, closed out the session discussing Surgical Aspects of IBD.
Finally, there was ice-cream all round to mark the end of summer!
