Colorectal Cancer Symptoms to Know

Colorectal Cancer
This week Image.ie are discussing Colorectal Cancer, following the sad news last week of Dame Deborah James’ passing. Dame Deborah James was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2016, and used her own experience to raise funds for cancer research and awareness for bowel cancer.
Professor Reza Kalbassi, Consultant in Colorectal Surgery here in Beacon Hospital, spoke to Image.ie about the rising incidences of colorectal cancer in the young, common symptoms to look out for and why it is so important to pay attention to even the smallest changes to your health.
Common symptoms of Colorectal Cancer include rectal bleeding continuing for more than six weeks, changes in bowel habits to constipation or diarrhoea, looser stool and increased frequency persisting for more than 6 weeks.
If you are concerned about any health issues, don’t delay. Visit your GP and get it checked.
Ignoring symptoms and avoiding the GP can lead to late diagnosis of what may have been a more easily treated case if it had been identified earlier.
