Training & Education
Professor Robbie Woods BA MB BCh BAO DOHNS MCh MSc MD IFHNS FRCSI (ORL-HNS) graduated with a Gold Medal and First Class Honors from Trinity College Dublin in 2010, and at the end of surgical training was awarded the Gold Medal for the highest score in the UK/Ireland final intercollegiate Royal College of Surgeons ENT Fellowship examination in 2020. In 2020, he joined the specialist register in ENT in Ireland.
Prof Woods completed two years of prestigious fellowships in Head & Neck and Anterior Skull Base surgery at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York from 2020 to 2022. He is also a qualified international fellow in Head & Neck Surgery in 2022 (IFHNS).
Experience
Prof Robbie Woods is a Consultant Ear, Nose, Throat, Head & Neck and Anterior Skull Base Surgeon. His practice encompasses the generality of ENT surgery, along with specialist interests of Head & Neck and Rhinology.
Prof Woods’ research portfolio includes a lab-based doctoral degree, Master’s in Surgery, over 40 peer-reviewed publications, and two book chapters. He has given multiple international presentations and won several research awards. He is a clinical lead on successful competitive grant applications (Irish arm of SPELCASTER consortium 2023, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action 2026, local translational research awards in Beaumont/RCSI in 2025, and HSE SPARK Access Accelerator award 2026).
Additionally, Prof Woods is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at RCSI, with regular formal teaching sessions at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He organises an annual endoscopic skull base and sinus dissection course for ENT trainees from Ireland and the UK. As well as teaching, he is President of the European Sinonasal Cancer Network, Chair of the Examination Committee of the IFHNOS Global Online Fellowship, and Co-Chair of the Patient Advocacy Committee of the Skull Base Section of the American Head & Neck Society.
