Training:

Dr Wan graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2003. He completed his Basic Specialist Training in Ireland in 2006 and served as a Clinical Lecturer in Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) for two years. He earned his MRCPI from the Royal College of Physicians (RCPI) in 2008, followed by a Medical Doctorate in Diabetes from RCSI in 2016. He pursued a fellowship in diabetes in pregnancy  at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital and received a dual accreditation in Endocrinology and Diabetes, as well as General Internal Medicine, from RCPI in 2018. He also obtained a Professional Certificate in Healthcare Management from University College Dublin in 2023.

Experience:

Dr Wan is a Consultant Endocrinologist. His areas of specialty include Diabetes Mellitus, Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus including diabetes technology (Hybrid Close Loop Insulin Pump) and General Endocrinology including Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal and Reproductive Endocrinology.

Dr Wan’s primary focus has been on diabetes care, including the integration of technology for individuals with type 1 diabetes, and pre-pregnancy diabetes management.

He holds accreditation as a DAFNE Educator from DAFNE UK and serves as the clinical lead in diabetes technology and general endocrinology at St. Columcille’s Hospital (SCH) and oversees the diabetes pre-pregnancy clinic at both SCH and St. Vincent’s University Hospital (SVUH). Additionally, he is an Honorary Consultant at SVUH and an Honorary Associate Professor for RCSI & UCD (RUMC) Medical School in Malaysia.

Dr Wan has extensive experience in endocrinology, having participated in multidisciplinary services for thyroid and adrenal disorders, pituitary conditions, reproductive endocrinology, and endocrinology in pregnancy at various training centers across Ireland.

He significantly contributes to medical education at University College Dublin, the postgraduate Warwick Diabetes Programme, the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Programme, and Diabetes Nursing Education. He also engages with the public through Diabetes Ireland.

He exhibits a keen enthusiasm for gaming and music, possesses a profound appreciation for technology, and enjoys hiking and taking long walks during his leisure time.
