Mr Stephen Farrell

Mr Farrell completed his Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmic Surgery in Ireland before undertaking advanced sub-specialist fellowship training in Vancouver, Canada. Through the University of British Columbia, he gained extensive experience in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with a special interest in paediatric cataract and glaucoma.

He was awarded an MD from University College Dublin for his research into retinal biochemistry and glaucoma, contributing valuable insights to the field.

Mr Farrell is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Beacon Hospital, specialising in cataract surgery, strabismus, and paediatric ophthalmology. He is dedicated to providing expert, compassionate care to both adult and paediatric patients, with a particular focus on complex eye conditions requiring surgical management.

Since returning to Ireland in 2018, Mr Farrell has worked as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon across both the public and private sectors. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in leading international ophthalmology journals and has presented his work at major international conferences.

He is actively involved in the education and mentorship of trainee ophthalmologists through the Irish College of Ophthalmologists and continues to advance clinical standards through ongoing research and innovation. Mr Farrell is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
