Training:

Prof Watchorn is a graduate of University College Dublin (2009). After undertaking training in general internal medicine in Beaumont Hospital, he undertook specialist training in dermatology in the south west of England. He undertook a research fellowship investigating the aetiopathogenesis of lichen sclerosus at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His research was funded by a grant awarded by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology in a pan-European competitive process, and he received his MD(Res) from UCD for this work. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2019.

Experience:

Prof Watchorn was appointed as Consultant Dermatologist in Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London in 2017, based at Hammersmith Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. He was later appointed to Beaumont Hospital and Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown and joined Beacon Hospital in 2023.  He also holds an Honorary Consultant appointment at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

His areas of practice include general adult dermatology including inflammatory dermatology and skin cancer. His subspecialist expertise includes skin disease in immunosuppressed individuals and genital dermatology.

Prof Watchorn is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. He is the National Specialty Director for Dermatology (jointly held role) in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

He is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences and has also co-authored multiple papers in peer-reviewed dermatology journals and has co-authored chapters in medical textbooks for dermatologists and medical students.
