Dr Patrick Nicholson

Training & Experience:
Dr Nicholson completed his training in Ireland in 2017, before undertaking two separate fellowship years in both diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology in Toronto Western Hospital, which is a world-renowned centre for neurological diseases. He then joined the team there as a consultant, before returning to Ireland in 2023. He is a Consultant Neurointerventional Radiologist in Beacon Hospital, Beaumont Hospital and an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in RCSI.
His clinical interests focus on endovascular and minimally invasive approaches for the management of neurological diseases, including stroke, brain aneurysms, brain, head and neck arteriovenous malformations (AVMS) and spinal conditions such as tumours and fractures. He also has a special interest in CSF disorders such as intracranial hypertension (IIH), symptomatic intracranial hypotension (SIH)/CSF leaks, and pulsatile tinnitus.
He has a strong academic interest and is committed to advancing the field through collaborative research and clinical trials. His research focuses on further developing cutting-edge endovascular and minimally invasive treatments for neurological diseases. He has co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, with a h-index of 28, and has supervised several masters and PhD students. He is an active international lecturer and is part of the faculty of several European neuroIR courses.
