Training:

Following his graduation from UCD, Mr Sweeney competed basic and higher surgical training in Neurosurgery in Ireland. In addition to receiving several awards and prizes, he also completed his doctorate in medicine in the field of neuro-oncology. Mr Sweeney received the Professor W.A.L. McGowan Medal and the Colles Travelling Fellowship in Surgery Medal upon finishing his training. Mr Sweeney went on to complete international fellowships in neurosurgery in Lyon, France and NHNN, Queen’s Square, London.

Experience & Specialty Interest:

Mr Kieron Sweeney is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Beacon Hospital. Mr Sweeney has a clinical interest in epilepsy surgery and in neuro-oncology. He has a specialist interest in using techniques including advanced imaging and computer modeling, combined with intra-operative monitoring and mapping strategies in order to improve patient outcomes.

Mr Sweeney’s general neurosurgical practice includes the management of hydrocephalus (including neuro-endoscopy), degenerative spine conditions and cranial trauma.

Mr Sweeney is also involved in academia, and is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer for RCSI. His special academic interest is in neuro-oncology, onco-epilepsy and epilepsy. With both RCSI and Trinity College Dublin, Mr Sweeney has close academic relationships. Mr Sweeney has also authored many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
