Training
Mr O’Riordan is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin having obtained an honours degree in 1998. He underwent basic surgical training in Ireland and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2001. He then obtained a Degree of Doctor of Medicine from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 followed by higher surgical training in Ireland from 2004-2009.
He achieved his completion of training in General Surgery in Ireland in 2009 and has held Specialist Registration with the Irish Medical Council since 2010. Mr O’Riordan went to Canada and completed an International Fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Toronto in 2011.

Mr James O’Riordan is a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Beacon Hospital.
Mr O’Riordan has over 50 peer reviewed publications and is a member of the Trinity Academic Gastroenterology Research Group. He is also involved in surgical education and is an active member of both the Core Surgical Training (CST) and General Surgery Training Committees in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is the National CST2 lead for General Surgery and is a member of the teaching faculty in the RCSI for Colorectal training, Operative skills, and laparoscopic skills training days.
Since 2011 he has been a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon working between Tallaght University Hospital & St James’ Hospital Dublin.He is the current Chair of the Department of General & Vascular Surgery in Tallaght University Hospital (2024-present) and is the new Joint Programme Director for Higher Surgical Training in Ireland in General Surgery.
