Training & Education:
Dr James Curtain graduated with Distinction and First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of East Anglia. He went on to completed postgraduate medical and cardiology training at leading centres in Cambridge, Cork, Dublin and Glasgow, including a four-year clinical and research fellowship in heart failure and cardiac devices. He also completed a PhD at the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. He undertook advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation training at the Scottish National Advanced Heart Failure Unit, the highest volume transplant centre in the United Kingdom at that time. He was the West of Scotland complex cardiac device fellow.
Experience:
Dr Curtain is a Consultant Cardiologist at Beacon Hospital. He specialises in heart failure and implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
He is Consultant Clinical Lead for the Chronic Cardiovascular Disease Integrated Care Programme at St James’s Hospital and HSE hubs, and also serves as a Higher Specialist Trainer in Cardiology and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Trinity School of Medicine, Dublin. His research has been published in leading international cardiology journals and presented at major European cardiology congresses.
