Training & Experience:

Professor Duane is a Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Beacon Hospital, St. Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network (SLRON), St. Luke’s Hospital and St James’s Hospital. Additionally she is a Clinical Associate Professor at Trinity College Dublin.

In 2014 she received her certificate of specialist training from the Faculty of Radiologists and Radiation Oncologists, RCSI. Following this Prof Duane was awarded a doctorate at the University of Oxford in 2019 after completion of a DPhil as part of a clinical research fellowship focused on breast cancer radiotherapy.

Currently Prof Duane subspecialises in the treatment of breast cancer, head and neck and skin cancers, and the delivery of stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy for oligometastases. She is involved in clinical research aiming to investigate the benefits and risks of radiotherapy for breast cancer, the development of dose-response relationships for the effects of radiotherapy, as well projects focused on breast cancer radiotherapy optimisation and the benefit of SABR for patients with oligometastases.

She is currently leading Ireland’s participation in international breast radiotherapy clinical studies on the Irish Radiation Research Oncology Group and Cancer Trials Ireland Breast Disease Specific Site Group portfolio including a number of phase III clinical trials and prospective registry studies.

Prof Duane is Clinical Chair of the NCCP breast radiotherapy group and her work has also contributed to the development of international breast cancer radiotherapy guidelines. Prof Duane enjoys teaching and supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
