Training & Education:
Dr Barry Hennigan graduated with honours from University College Dublin in 2005. He completed postgraduate training in General Medicine in Dublin before entering Higher Specialist Training in Cardiology in 2009.
In 2013, Dr Hennigan moved to the UK to undertake advanced fellowship training in Coronary Intervention at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, West of Scotland Heart & Lung Centre, Glasgow. During this time, he also conducted clinical research in coronary physiology, completing a British Heart Foundation–funded MD randomised controlled trial investigating borderline coronary artery disease. His research was presented as a Late Breaking Clinical Trial at EuroPCR in Paris in 2018.
Experience
Dr Hennigan has over 10 years experience as a Consultant Cardiologist, specialising in interventional and general cardiology. Following his fellowship training in the UK, he was appointed Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary before returning to Ireland in 2017.
Since then, he has worked in Cork, at Mater Private Cork and Cork University Hospital Primary PCI service, providing specialist cardiac care and coronary intervention services.
Dr Hennigan joined Beacon Hospital in March 2026, delivering a patient-centred cardiology and interventional service with a focus on timely access to diagnostics and treatment.
