Training
Dr Donnelly completed undergraduate medical training in Queens University Belfast in 2013 before being accepted onto the Northern Ireland radiology training scheme. He was admitted as a fellow to the Royal Colleague of Radiologists (UK) in 2021.
He completed a fellowship in breast imaging in the Belfast City Hospital and Northern Ireland Cancer Centre in 2023.
Dr Donnelly was also twice shortlisted for the prestigious Porter prize by the Ulster Radiological Society, and in 2023 was awarded the title for his project comparing advanced imaging techniques in the pre-operative assessment of breast cancer.
Experience
Upon completion of radiology training, Dr Donnelly was appointed Consultant Radiologist with interest in breast imaging to the Belfast NHS trust where he continues in post. His scope of practice includes diagnostic and procedural breast imaging in both the screening and symptomatic settings as well as general adult cross sectional imaging and non vascular intervention. Dr Donnelly also has experience in working within the HSE having held a temporary post at Beaumont Hospital where he saw almost exclusively symptomatic breast patients.
A keen teacher, Dr Donnelly holds a post graduate certificate in clinical education from Queens University Belfast and regularly helps registrars in preparing for post graduate radiology exams.
Dr Donnelly sees patients in private practice North and South of the border in the Ulster Independent Clinic and Beacon Hospital respectively.
