Training:

Dr Anna Whelehan graduated from University College Dublin with honours in 2006. Having completed her neurology training in Ireland in 2018 she went on complete the specialist training scheme in clinical neurophysiology in the UK in 2021. She is a qualified consultant in both specialities. Dr Whelehan was awarded a PhD for her research in neurology by University College Dublin in 2018 and was also awarded the AANEM certificate of added qualification in neuromuscular ultrasound in 2023.

Experience:

Dr Whelehan works as a Consultant Clinical Neurophysiologist at Beacon Hospital and also at Beaumont Hospital where she was appointed in 2021. Dr Whelehan performs routine and complex nerve conduction and EMG studies in her practice as a neurophysiologist for a variety of indications including polyneuropathies, entrapment neuropathies, radiculopathy, other neurogenic disorders, myopathies and neuromuscular junction disorders. She uses neuromuscular ultrasound as a complementary tool to diagnose peripheral nerve and muscle disorders in the EMG laboratory.

She also reports on urgent inpatient and outpatient EEG tests. She is  also involved in reporting long term EEG studies that are recorded in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and she also performs intraoperative neuromonitoring for brain and spine surgeries.
