Dr Mark Davies is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at Beacon Hospital, Dublin. He has specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias. He combines advanced clinical practice with a strong academic background, delivering innovative, evidence-based care tailored to patients with both common and highly complex heart rhythm disorders.

Education & Training

Dr Davies graduated from Medicine and Surgery from University of Cambridge and then completed his cardiology training in the Oxford University Hospitals specialising in Cardiac Electrophysiology and Devices. He subsequently undertook a prestigious post-CCT Electrophysiology Fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), training under Professor Kalyanam Shivkumar. During this time, he developed advanced expertise in complex ventricular arrhythmia management, including novel mapping techniques and cutting-edge interventional therapies.

Prior to his medical career, Dr Davies studied Biochemistry and completed a PhD under the supervision of Professor David Lomas, focusing on cellular signalling and protein misfolding in health and disease.

Experience

Dr Davies moved to Beacon from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he managed a wide spectrum of cardiac rhythm disorders. His clinical work focused on delivering highly specialised electrophysiology care, including complex ablation procedures and advanced device therapies. He is recognised for his expertise in treating patients with challenging arrhythmias and in integrating novel techniques into routine clinical practice.

Dr Davies is committed to a personalised, patient-centred approach. He ensures that patients are fully informed about their condition and treatment options, and he tailors management strategies to individual risk profiles, using the latest advances in electrophysiology to optimise outcomes while minimising procedural risk.

Research & Academic Interests

Dr Davies is an active clinician-scientist with a strong interest in translational research. His work focuses on: mechanistic insights into cardiac arrhythmias; personalised approaches to risk stratification and application of machine learning to clinical workflows.

Dr Davies contributes to the advancement of cardiac electrophysiology through research, collaboration, and the development of novel therapeutic techniques. He remains actively engaged in academic and clinical networks both in the UK and internationally.
