Dr David Rea MB, MRCS, MCh, FFR RCSI
Dr Rea graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1994. Following post graduate studies in General Surgery and Urology he completed his specialist training in Radiology at St James’s Hospital, The Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and Post Fellowship training in Paediatric Neuroradiology and Paediatric Interventional Radiology in the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.
He was appointed Consultant Paediatric Radiologist to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin in 2009. Dr Rea has specialty interests in General Paediatric Radiology, Paediatric chest and abdominal Imaging, Paediatric Feeding studies, Paediatric Neuroradiology and Paediatric Interventional Radiology. Dr Rea’s Interventional Radiology practice is based in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
Dr Rea started with the Beacon Radiology group on May 1st 2018 and is keen to progress all aspects of Paediatric Imaging at the Beacon Hospital. He attends the hospital on Wednesday afternoons.
Area of Specialty: Musculoskeletal and Orthopaedic imaging
Dr O’Keeffe MB, MRCP(UK), FFR RCSI, FRCR (UK) completed her undergraduate medical training in Trinity College Dublin. She completed her postgraduate Radiology training in St James’s Hospital in Dublin before undertaking fellowships in Oncology Imaging in the Mater Hospital, Dublin and Breast Radiology and Women’s Imaging in Cambridge, UK. She was appointed as a Consultant Radiologist in St James’s Hospital and Senior Lecturer in Trinity College in 2010. She has since spent two years as a Consultant Radiologist in St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London with a special interest in Breast Radiology.
Her special interests are in Breast and Women’s Imaging including infertility and cancer care. She undertakes tomosynthesis guided procedures and vacuum biopsies for management of breast conditions. She also specialises in cross-sectional body intervention and biopsy. She has served on university and national bodies including the National Cancer Control Programme.
Dr Ian Brennan has recently joined our Radiology team. Ian graduated with honours from UCD Medical School in 2000.
Following four years of basic surgical training and research in Dublin and Cork he commenced his Radiology specialty training in St James’s Hospital in 2006. In 2012, following completion of two years of specialist Fellowship training in Boston, he was appointed staff interventional and diagnostic radiologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with a faculty appointment to Harvard Medical School.
In 2015 he returned home to Ireland to take up a consultant appointment at St James’s Hospital Dublin, specialising in interventional radiology, interventional oncology and abdominal diagnostic imaging. His practice at the Beacon hospital will encompass all aspects of radiology and in particular oncologic imaging and minimally invasive therapy.
Dr Wilson graduated from the Trinity College Dublin in 1981 and trained in Radiology in the Aberdeen University Hospitals and St Thomas Hospitals, London. He has been a Consultant Radiologist in Beacon Hospital and has been in St. James’s Hospital since 1989 where he is the head of CT imaging.
He recently established the cardiac CT and CT colonography programmes and is the lead Radiologist with the Gastrointestinal cancer group.
He is also part of the women’s imaging section with extensive experience in Mammography and ultrasound guided breast biopsies.
Niall Sheehy MB, MRCP, FFR RCSI graduated from University College Dublin in 1997. Following post graduate studies in Neurology he completed his specialist training in Radiology at St James’s Hospital, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
He was the clinical lead for the HSE in the National Medical Imaging System and was appointed as a consultant in Beacon Hospital. Dr Sheehy has a specialty interest in PET-CT, Neuroradiology and Cardiac Imaging. He is also the Clinical lead of the Nuclear Medicine department.
Professor Meaney MB, FRCPI, FRCR (UK) has been a Consultant Radiologist since 1996 and works in Beacon Hospital since 2001. He is the director of the 3T MRI research centre in Trinity College (The Centre for Advanced Medical Imaging) and is a clinical Professor in Trinity College Dublin.
His specialist interests include CT and MRI of the chest, abdomen, brain and cardiovascular system. He also established the Cardiac MRI service in St James’s. Professor Meaney is also Chairman of the charitable SJH Foundation.
Dr Ronan McDermott MB, MRCPI, FFR(RCSI), FRCR (UK) is a Consultant Radiologist in Beacon Hospital and in St James’s Hospital since 2002. He completed his Radiology training in St James’s Hospital before spending three years in the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University St Louis, completing Fellowship training in Abdominal Imaging, Breast Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, including PET/CT.
He is currently President of the Irish Nuclear Medicine Association. His clinical interests include the CT and PET-CT imaging assessment and management of Lung Cancer and Lymphoma. He is part of the women’s imaging group in St James’s and helped established the breast cancer MRI service.
He is an accomplished cross sectional interventional radiologist with a special interest in breast stereotactic biopsy and lung intervention.
