Dr Carla Moran is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Beacon Hospital in Dublin.  Following completion of specialist training in Endocrinology, Diabetes Mellitus & General Internal Medicine in Ireland, she undertook a fellowship in thyroid disease at Addenbrooke’s Hospital & the University of Cambridge, UK, during which time she obtained her PhD degree.

She brings to the Beacon Hospital her particular expertise in endocrine disorders, having led the thyroid service in Cambridge, where she developed specialist services (endocrine disease in pregnancy, rare thyroid disorders, alemtuzumab induced thyroid dysfunction and virtual clinics), expanded a multidisciplinary thyroid biopsy clinic and conducted busy general thyroid and endocrine clinics.

She has an interest in investigation of discordant thyroid function, having directed a national referral service for patients in the UK. Through collaboration with the University of Cambridge, she continues to perform research on rare thyroid disease and has published over 25 papers describing results of original research, as well as review papers and book chapters.

Significant teaching contributions include developing and leading components of the Professionalism Curriculum for medical students at the University of Cambridge, delivering undergraduate teaching and examining at MB level.
