Training:

Dr O’Hanlon qualified in 1999 from UCD and went on to complete his cardiology and general medical training in Ireland until moving to complete his Fellowship in cardiovascular magnetic resonance and structural cardiomyopathies in the Royal Brompton Hospital between 2006 and 2009. Dr O’Hanlon has a Level 3 accreditation through the European Society of Cardiovascular imaging in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and through the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in the USA.

Dr Rory O’Hanlon is a Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Cardiac MRI at Beacon Hospital.

Dr O’Hanlon returned to Ireland in 2009 as a consultant cardiologist with sub-specialty expertise in cardiac MRI following a three-year cardiac MRI research and clinical fellowship in the largest cardiac MRI centre at that time in the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.  His main areas of specialist interest and sub-specialty expertise are in the role of cardiac MRI in the diagnosis and risk stratification for people with structural cardiomyopathies who may be at risk for sudden cardiac death, and in the role of cardiac MRI to guide revascularisation procedures in patients with known coronary artery disease.  He also has a specialist interest in the field of sports cardiology.  He has authored or co-authored over fifty papers in the field of cardiac MRI.
