Training:

Dr Vera Keatings obtained her medical degree from UCD and pursued postgraduate training in London at The St. George’s Hospital Group and The Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute. On returning to Dublin, she held the post of lecturer then senior lecturer in medicine before taking up her consultant position in Donegal.

Experience:

Dr Keatings held the post of Consultant Physician in General and Respiratory Medicine in Letterkenny University Hospital from 2000 to 2023.

She played a lead role in overseeing the development of community pulmonary rehabilitation and conducted novel research on remote monitoring of patients with severe lung disease and COVID in the community. Collaborating with nursing colleagues, she has contributed to advancing enhanced community care of chronic lung diseases.

She held the post of Honorary Personal Professor of Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Galway. She also held the position of Associate Academic Officer at the Saolta Group and was Dean of the Donegal Medical Academy, School of Medicine, The University of Galway.

 

Dr Keatings’ Research Interests include Airway Inflammation, Quality of Life in Advanced Lung Disease, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and Remote Monitoring of Patients.
