Welcome to the Clinical Trials Research Unit
Welcome to the Beacon Hospital Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU) which was established in 2009 by Dr.Alina Mihai, Prof.John Armstrong and Sinead Callinan within the radiotherapy department.
The Clinical Trials Research Unit was created to carry out high quality cancer research via clinical trials on the use of new techniques and treatments that might not be available as standard treatment currently. Clinical trials allow additional access to services, treatments and also for the contribution to the discovery of new techniques that it is hoped may benefit patients in the future.
All clinical trials carried out in Beacon Hospital adhere to strict international governance and regulations following the International Congress on Harmonisation-Good Clinical Practice standards.
The Research Unit actively participates in a number of national and international clinical trials and has continued to grow over the last number of years. Details of the clinical trials currently open for recruitment at Beacon Hospital can be found in the “Trials” section on this site.
All of the Research Unit staff are members of Cancer Trials Ireland, the country’s oncology research charity organisation and a large portion of the clinical trials carried out in Beacon Hospital are as a result of participation in their trials(formerly the Irish Coperative Oncology Research Group).
