Welcome to UCD Beacon Hospital Academy.
The UCD Beacon Hospital Academy was launched in February 2015 by Minister Leo Varadkar and boasts the most comprehensive private training programmes in Ireland underpinned by excellence in scholarship, innovation in all aspects of healthcare provision and transformative management and leadership.
The Academy provide clinical education and support to many UCD accredited academic programmes, from undergraduate degrees to postgraduate certificates, diplomas and degrees. The hospital is a private University affiliate for clinical placements and not the principle site for training of UCD Health Science students. The principle sites for training of UCD Health Science students are St Vincent’s University Hospital and Mater Misericordia Hospital, together with other Voluntary and Statutory hospitals within the health system.
Clinical placement opportunities are offered to students from the following schools:
UCD School of Nursing Midwifery and Health Science
UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Performance Science
UCD School of Medicine
Non clinical placements opportunities are offered to students from the following school:
UCD Lochlann School of Business
The training facilities are state of the art and the staff and students enjoy direct access to the latest equipment and technology
Each clinical placement is designed to complement the students learning in the public hospital systems and to provide opportunities for the students to build on their clinical skills and fully submerge their learning in emerging technologies and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Our students are recognised as the agents of change in healthcare, capable of harnessing and absorbing technology in healthcare, roles models in their professional fields and champions for interdisciplinary team work.
The UCD Beacon Hospital Academy draw on the expertise of the wider UCD network and facilitate Beacon Hospital staff to undertake executive management and leadership courses.
Innovation in Healthcare is built into the ethos of the Academy and this can be readily seen by the hospital’s involvement in the largest European Connected Health project to date – CHESS.
