UPMC Beacon Hospital is a full service hospital which comprises 238,000 square feet over 9 floors. It has capacity for 183 beds.
UPMC Beacon Hospital is operated by UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center).
The hospital combines the best in Irish and US healthcare. As the showcase site for General Electric in Europe, it has the most up to date Radiology systems, including MRI, CT scanner with cardiac capabilities, CT Sim, and PET/CT. It also features Digital Radiology suites with advanced Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound, as well as Angiography suites and lab with advanced single- plane and bi-plane systems and Flouroscopy.
Treatment facilities in UPMC Beacon include 8 operating theatres
with dedicated rooms for Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiac,
General, Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic Surgery.
It has 2 Endoscopy suites, a state of the art Oncology day
treatment centre, and therapeutic radiography with LINAC-
linear accelerator.
UPMC Beacon has 14 Critical Care Beds individually capable
of isolating any patient. This may seem a small point but is in
fact very important – each patient has their own room, with glass
front, so nurses see everything, but they are allowed a certain
degree of privacy with their loved ones at this crucial time. It also
helps minimize infection- a very pertinent issue in healthcare today.
As you might expect, UPMC Beacon offers highly advanced IT systems –
which offer electronic medical record capabilities and remote access
to clinical information for doctors – GPs and consultants. This
means that any doctor can access their patients chart from a remote
office and act accordingly.
The nursing philosophy in UPMC Beacon is a collaborative approach where
compassion and care are delivered through touch, a kind act, through
competent clinical interventions or through listening and seeking to
understand the others experience. The nursing philosophy is
relationship-based with therapeutic presence- where patients are
treated primarily as individuals with individual needs.
Some of the services which UPMC Beacon offers include an
Emergency Department, which is consultant-led. Patients can
be referred by their GP when they have for example chest pain, and
the hospital has the advantage of allowing direct referral to the
wards when appropriate.
Our Neurosciences department includes a neurosurgeon and
neurologists.
Other services in the hospital include our cancer centre and Women’s centre.
We will
provide exceptional patient care in an
environment where quality, respect, caring and
compassion are at the centre of all we do.
Our vision is to be a Beacon of excellence in Irish healthcare.
We will position ourselves as the preferred healthcare
provider within the community we serve. Our services will be
provided by dedicated, competent and talented people focused
on continuous improvement and service excellence.
We are a powerful partnership of patients, employees and
physicians bound together by a unique identity. Our culture is
built upon three cornerstones: physician relationships, employee
trust and community involvement. We will accomplish this in
a technologically advanced setting in which our people can
thrive while focusing on our mission of providing exceptional
patient care.
We will work collaboratively with other health care providers in the community.
