Ruth Gibson BSC (Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc (Sports Physiotherapy), Stott Pilates Instructor, MISCP.
Ruth Gibson is the Physiotherapy Manager in the UPMC Beacon Hospital. She graduated form University College Dublin with an honours degree in 2000 and also received a first class Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from University College Dublin in 2005. Ruth worked for 6 years in St. Vincent’s University Hospital. During this time, Ruth was Senior in both Musculoskeletal Outpatients and in clinical education and also lectured on the undergraduate programme for University College Dublin. In 2007, Ruth successfully completed the Stott Pilates Instructors course and now teaches Pilates to both staff and patients in the UPMC Beacon Hospital. More recently, Ruth has gained post graduate qualifications in acupuncture and is successfully using this to treat many pain conditions.
Kathy Kavanagh BSC (First Degree Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc (Sports Physiotherapy and Manips), Lic. Ac. MISCP
Kathy Kavanagh is the Senior Outpatients Physiotherapist. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1999 with a First Degree Honours in Physiotherapy and has since attained a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy and Manipulations from the University College of London in 2004, together with qualifications in the practice of acupuncture. Kathy has extensive experience in the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, orthopaedics and neurological rehabilitation. She also spent 4 years as Senior Physiotherapist to the Irish Men’s Hockey team; has worked with 1st division rugby teams (in Ireland and UK); looked after athletics and hockey athletes at the Commonwealth Games (Manchester 2002) and spent one season with Davis Cup Team Physiotherapist (2004). Kathy, alongside our team of consultants, specialises in the treatment and rehabilitation of back, pelvic and neck pain patients.
Sinead Moffatt BSc (First Degree Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc (Manips), Stott Pilates Instructor, MISCP
Sinead Moffatt is a Senior Physiotherapist in Musculoskeletal Outpatients. She graduated from the Robert Gordon University in Scotland in 2000 with a first class honors degree. Since graduating, Sinead has completed a certificate in Manual Therapy in Perth, Australia and also graduated as a Stott Pilates Instructor in 2004. More recently in January 2009, Sinead successfully completed a Masters in Manual Therapy (Manipulation) with the University of Western Australia and was awarded a higher distinction grade.
Sinead has worked exclusively in the area of musculoskeletal and sports injuries for the past 5 years and during this time has worked with numerous sports teams including Rugby (Scottish U19's), Gaelic football (County and Club level) and Hockey (Provincial). She is a keen Triathlete and is also member of the Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine working as head Physiotherapist for the Dublin Marathon for the past four years.
Aileen Flynn BSC (Hons) Physiotherapy, MSc (Sports Physiotherapy), MISCP
Aileen Flynn is the clinical specialist in musculoskeletal care in UPMC Beacon Hospital. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin 1999 with honours and received a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from UCD in 2005. She has 9 years of experience working in a variety of areas ranging from orthopaedics, neurosurgical rehab, rheumatology, and acute accident and emergency caseloads. Aileen's areas of interest are shoulder rehabilitation and biomechanics. She has worked closely with elite sports teams through her 3 years spent as team physiotherapist to the UCD rugby 1st XV and her work in private practice with the Ireland Rugby under 19s. She leads a very progressive and dynamic physiotherapy outpatients service. More recently, Aileen has gained post graduate qualifications in acupuncture and is successfully using this to treat many pain conditions.
Sheena Smith BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MISCP
Sheena Smith is an honors physiotherapy graduate of the University of Wales, College Of Medicine in 2002. In addition to her physiotherapy degree, Sheena also holds a National Certificate in Applied Physiology and Health Science which she completed in 1999.
Sheena has worked for four years in a number of National Health Service trusts throughout Wales before returning to Ireland in 2006 where she worked in both the Roscommon County Hospital and St. Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin. She is the senior physiotherapist of the in-patient orthopedic team and has an avid interest in active rehabilitation in the multidisciplinary team setting ensuring optimal patient care.
Ailish Daly BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist, MISCP
Ailish Daly is an honours physiotherapy graduate of Manchester School of Physiotherapy. In addition to her physiotherapy degree, Ailish is a fully qualified Manual Lymphatic Drainage therapist since 2006 and is currently undertaking a Multi-Disciplinary Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care. Ailish worked for 3 years in the NHS before moving to Norway, where she worked in a specialist public hospital for almost 4 years. Ailish returned to Ireland in 2006 and worked for 2 years in the HSE. She is the senior physiotherapist of the in patient cardio-respiratory team and has a specific interest in rehabilitation of patients following serious illness.
Tony Spain BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc Exercise and Sports Science, MISCP
Tony Spain has an honours degree in Physiotherapy from the Royal College of Surgeons together with an honours degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Limerick, Ireland. He also holds a certificate in Spinal Manual Therapy and is a member of the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine. Tony has worked extensively in the public and private sector for the last six years – the National Orthopaedic Hospital (Cappagh), St. James’s Hospital (Dublin 8) and the Leinster Clinic (Maynooth, Co. Kildare). He is a senior in the outpatient team and has a keen interest in pelvic disorders.
Julianne Sweeney BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, MISCP
Julianne Sweeney is an honours physiotherapy graduate of the School of Physiotherapy, Trinity College, Dublin completing her studies in 2006. After graduating Julianne gained valuable experience working in St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. She is a junior member of the inpatient physiotherapy team, linking between the cardio-respiratory, oncology and orthopaedic services, with a particular interest in furthering and developing the physiotherapy services to the elderly in the UPMC Beacon Hospital. |
